Building Ideal Schools - Deepening Understanding through Reflecting and Making

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Combining Maker Ed and thinking routines, two first grade teachers share their experience delving into a study of school community. The teachers will share how they helped students deepen their understanding of a topic through questioning, experimenting, reflecting, and making! After students had the opportunity to study their own school community, they were asked to reflect on their understanding through video blogs, painted reflection journals, Think Books, and iBooks. Students shared their understanding of the interdependence of a school community by creating a physical model of their ideal school. This unit was shared as a part of an Exhibition of Teacher and Student Learning - a DC-PZ event.
